Net Neutrality
Visualize the Controversy
Final Synthesis Project
2017-2018
The project is part of the Final Synthesis Studio (second year of Master) and it is composed by three phases. Each of them is characterized by the use of different tools and techniques to observe, describe and represent the data, in order to understand and analyse the controversial phenomenon from different points of view.
Network Neutrality is the principle all Internet traffic should be equally treated. The debate started when some Internet Service Providers tried to influence the access to the web contents, making some services faster or free, without data consumption.
Link to Neutrality
During the first phase, we looked into the official sources to find out some information about the phenomenon itself and the actors involved. We focused on the Net Neutrality definition, on the users and on the Service Providers, which are the Internet suppliers.

Affected by Neutrality
During the second phase, we went deeper to understand the opinion of the actors in the debate, investigating the real position of the Internet Service Providers involved.

On the Net Neutrality way
We took a position for the last phase, characterized by a Call to Action. An installation involving the public opinion and exhibiting the problem was built. Different paths, representing the different kinds of connection, are drawn on the floor. Following the lines, people suffer for the interruptions and for the slowing downs due to the lack of the Net Neutrality. The description of the installation and some pictures are collected in the final website.
