Can Beauty survive the Climate Change?
Info-poetry
2018
The project has been developed for Final Synthesis Studio during the second year of the Master class, where the idea of the info-poetry began.
An Info-poetry is a data representation, using artistic techniques to communicate some specific information engaging the feelings of the public.
My Info-poetry is about the melting Icebergs and tries to offer a different prospective on the Climate Change issue. These ice blocks are melting faster and faster, changing the landscape they created. A question drives the project: Can Beauty survive the Climate Change? The Icebergs represent the kind of Beauty endangered by the Climate Change effects.
The dataset, I referred to realize the project, considers the Icebergs developed starting from 1978 in the Southern Hemisphere. The data comes from the International official sources of the entities taking care of the Iceberg monitoring (International Ice Patrol, North America Ice Service, National Snow and Ice Data Centre, National Ocean Service).
Every Iceberg is represented by a card: where white, the Iceberg is not completely melted and so, still alive, while, blue stands for extinguished Icebergs. I created blue small ice cubes I let them melt on the paper to realize the spots. Because of the methods adopted, every spot has a different and unique shape. The order follows the date of birth of the Icebergs.
